Player or Collector?

Since my last poll was such a big hit, I'm going to post another one.

Do you consider yourself a LoTR collector or a player? (Please try to stick to 1 or 2. Only answer 3 if you're equally both. If you lean one way or the other, answer 1 or 2)

To help you answer the question consider this:

Do you own bits and pieces of armies that are completely unusable (i.e. 3 Rangers of Gondor, but no other Gondor models?) If yes, you're probably a collector.

Do you only own evil models? If yes, you're probably a player.

Is your collection in various states of painting, yet EVERY Rohan model is based, painted and packed in the case for the next tournament? If yes, you're probably both.

When new models come out, you have to have them, just because they're new. You're probably a collector.

When new models come out, you try to work them into your existing army lists, or you try to build new, competitive lists with the models, to decide if you should buy them or not. You're probably a player.

By collector does that include painting? I mostly play this hobby for the gaming and painting combined. But since, without the game, it would be much less interesting, I chose Player.

(what I say when someone comes to my house to vs me! lol)

I'd include a love of painting, just for the sake of painting, (ie, not to get your stuff painted so you can take it to GW to play) as a collector thing. I consider myself a collector, and I paint just for love of painting.

I have to say that I'm surprised at the number of people who think they are both. I would have thought that most people lean one way or the other. I said that I was a collector, but I still make competitive lists, and enjoy playing the game, it's just that the game is primarily a collection to me.

I put collector, I like to play, but I don't that often. Painting/converting models is what I think is the most fun.

i voted both.

i love playing the game, and tend to only buy pieces that fit into the armies that i play, but the hobby aspect (modeling, converting, painting, etc.) is really big for me and at least equally important to playing, if not moreso.

At the moment it's mostly painting, but when I have a normal army ready (now I have somthing from every army) I will go playing the game a bit more.
But with my fast painting skills *cough* *cough* it will take some time before I'm finished.. (that's why I want to realise my Grey company army.. 1500 pts and just 36 figs!)
So it's collector now, and it is supposed to become both..

Sorry about the spam, fixed it.

I'm a collector at best, I have different armies and only a small percentage painted but I haven't played a game in a year or so.

I had to vote both. I am a collector at heart and was for the first year and a half untill I met a gamer who tought me to play. Now we play on a regular basis. I still collect as many figures as I can and I'm always on the hunt for more, but I do enjoying building armies and concocting lists etc. I love playing as much as I love collecting right now.

Both, I only get a game or two per month of late but I still enjoy that aspect of the hobby. On the other side I collect armies that I know I'll use ( no cone heads or feral uruks hear ) I enjoy painting as well as terrain construction.

I was a solid gamer until about 2004ish, when it sorta dried up for me. But the whole time, and nowadays for me, it's Collector [ie painter].
