No, it'll show what might have happened - and with the vast number of battles in LotR, was there any need at all to go there? No. They should have concentrated on bringing about an up-to-date, true version of the book/film...as far as I can tell, it offends even those who don't mind the film changes (as I don't...well, some of them, anyway).
I have to say, having read the reviews, I'm not terribly happy either... WotR rulebook for me, I think. I may get Conquest when it's a lot cheaper - but by all accounts, it's not remotely what I was expecting when I first heard of it.

But then, our computers won't run it, so that solves the problem.. To be honest, I'm not bothered by most views of the Lord of the Rings which aren't true to form, they really just seem to be an application of logic to what happened, or what might have happened..
After all, all computer games are fun if they aren't slightly ridiculous; think MarioKart! Most of what they do in Battlefront isn't really true to the image you see in the film (think Green troopers, blue troopers, red troopers). What I see this is, is as a bit of fun.. Some people might like that, others might not, and don't forget that what reviews say are the thoughts of people who might not have anything like the same interests or ideas as you.
I'm not saying go out and buy it, because there's not much point buying a game and then finding you don't like it, especially given the price, which, as has already been pointed out, could easily go towards something else.. My feeling is that it's worth giving it a go!
So, now, I'll quietly disappear for a week or two to give everybody to have a go at me..
Oh, and, SD, remember that this game isn't aimed at us., it's aimed at PC Game-a-holics who like every game they ever see..

I wasn't even referring to the storyline (Gimli and a band of Gondorians fighting Mordor Trolls in Moria). I was referring just to the skins and designs of the units in the game...
Apparently there is: Mouth of Sauron with Saruman's staff, Gondorian scouts (which are sort of like assassins), Gondorian mages, fire swords.
Pandemic Studios said they were targeting the LotR fans, but these signs only proves that this game, like most others, is aimed at the general public who don't care or know much about LotR.
And we thought EA's Battle For Middle-Earth went overboard. If you put these 2 games side-by-side, BFME looks like a game with much faith to Tolkien's books.

i downloaded a demo on xbox 360 and played today. The game is not to bad. The graphics are okay. some of the controls are a bit weird for my taste. Defientley very team based game. If you are by yourself most likely you won't stand a chance. :) I liked it but i don't think it is worth buying it for myself as i got bored rather quickly even with multiplayer. :(

The storyline doesn't bother me at all, and I rather enjoy playing as the forces of Evil on BFME 1 and 2, it's just the whole button mashing aspect of the game that is what will probably get me. Of course I did love The Two Towers and Retun of the King games, so we'll see.
Like I said, I'll with hold judgement until I play the demo.

Our home computer won't - you know as well as I do that my laptop just about has the minimum specs to cope with it...here are the 'benefits' of insisting on getting one with a half-decent graphics card!
Actually, I really don't like MarioCart, and can't see what most people see in it - along with the whole genre of Wii-type games. While I take your point about Battlefront, no-one actually cares about the details as much with Star Wars. The whole universe is a franchise, and the original stories - which are themselves only film scripts - have spawned hundreds of books which, if you assembled into any kind of order, wouldn't tell the same story. Lucas did not set out to create a world like Tolkien did, and PJ, to a greater or lesser extent, upheld: we know, because of Tolkien's self-sustaining world, that there quite simply aren't characters like Gondorian mages in Middle-Earth; whereas the Star Wars universe is so incomplete and vast that, frankly, anything could exist.
And I know who reviewers are! But they all say that if you're a Tolkienite, you're not gonna like it...and I, more or less, class myself as a Tolkienite...gamer...student...Classicist...type.. .errrm, thing.
Of course this game is aimed at those who love LotR - by all accounts, the controls are somewhat sticky, and it doesn't really fit into your average genre. There will be people who are just hard-core gamers playing it...but it is very much marketed for people who like LotR, in either its book or film version, and play the occasional computer game. Quite simply, if they weren't going to aim it at Ringers, they wouldn't have shelled out however much it cost to get the licence.
Anyway, enough, it's bedtime. I'm tired, and have a busy day tomorrow.
SD.
