Gollum's captured and canned!
|
This is very impressive for a fan film. It was a tad slow overall, I thought, and I was hoping to see more of the Woodland Realm, but I guess that's asking a bit much. It was well played by all and the overall production value is very good indeed. I'll definitely watch it again. Would like to know the trick for urning it to DVD—can't see a way to do that..
I made a (very) small editorial contribution to the film—or at least the final trailer. They were using the wrong convention for "Middle-earth" (they were spelling it "Middle Earth" in the title cuts). I emailed the director and explained they weren't using Tolkien's form and, since they were going through so much effort, they might want to correct that in the trailer. Lo and behold he wrote me back with a very nice email and the thing was quickly corrected—the final version of the trailer has it spelled correctly! As I said, a very small contribution, but now immortalized in HD! Heh. T. |
Hmm, the white in my banner writing should have been more subtle. Ah well, you live and learn...
Anyway, considering that it had practically no budget, I thought this was very good. Like T, I think it did feel somewhat slow, with an huge number of scenic shots with Aragorn moving around somewhere in the foreground, but then that plot, with the number of landscape available in the UK, was always going to present something of a challenge. Acting was good, Aragorn looked vaguely like Aragorn, Gandalf very like Gandalf, Orcs like Orcs, and Gollum like Gollum - I really like the way you didn't see his face until the very end, cutting down on expensive SE shots, but just doing enough to convince you that it was just chance that his face hadn't shown 'til then. I also thought they could have gone on a bit further, with Gollum being rescued, and Aragorn returning to the edges of the Shire...but heh, good effort all round. And T's got a claim to fame! Well done...I'll think of that every time I watch it. :ok: Please, please, please, someone tell us how to burn it! SD. |
I thought it was a very good short film.
They did capture the right feel of Middle-Earth. The sets, props and costume all fit in with that world, especcialy when you consider the budget. The acting was ok, certainly not bad. I was really impressed with the look of the Orcs. They just looked and sounded like the movie Orcs, and the make-up was amazing for such a low budget movie. That huge-blade-wielding-Orc-leader gave me an idea for a new Orc captain conversion!:veryhappy: (BTW, I think he lasted longer than Lurtz against Aragorn). |
Just watched it the other night, and I was blown away. For a fan film I thought it was pretty amazing. Everything was done really well, and I didn't really get the sense that it was moving too slowly - I actually thought it was paced very well. The acting was good, the choreography was pretty good, the cgi was meh but good given the limitations of the movie, and I thought it was really cool to see a rendition of Thranduil's halls too.
Made me really excited for the Hobbit movies, and it kind of made me want to convert that big orc. |
