Painting the Mahud Chieftain
Miniatures
-- King of Gondor
Paints Introduction So, you've just bought your Mahud Chieftain to stand proudly atop your Mumak. Then you ask yourself,
'Now how will I paint him?' Have no fear! Your answer is contained in the following article. Step 1 - Preparation The first step in preparing any miniature for painting is to remove any flash and mould lines.
Once this is done, glue the parts together and undercoat the assembled miniature with Chaos Black spray. Step 2 - The Back Banner Start by painting the cloth areas Blood Red. You will need at least 2 coats to get proper coverage over the black undercoat. After this is dry, water down some Red Gore (approx. 1:1 paint and water) and paint this over the cloth.
Once dry, highlight with Blood Red. Paint the wooden structure of the banner with Bestial Brown.
Wash with Brown Ink or watered down Scorched Brown. Paint the straps Bleached Bone. Banner Design Step 3 - Flesh First, paint all of the flesh Dark Flesh. Then, water down some Scorched Brown and apply this to the skin. Once the wash has dried, highlight the Mahud's skin
with a 1:1 mix of Dark Flesh and Dwarf flesh. Step 4 - Armour Paint the bracers and chest armour Shining Gold. Wash with either Chestnut Ink, Brown Ink, or watered down Scorched Brown. Highlight the strapping with a 1:1 mix of Chaos Black and Codex Grey. Step 5 - Cloth Red Cloth Grey Cloth Step 6 - Details The Face Now it's time to work on the tattoos. The edging that is already present on the miniature (the line on the head and cheeks)
should be painted Bleached Bone.
The Mahud's "crazy" eyes are one of the characters distinguishing features from the movie. To get this look in his eyes, paint the eye
sockets Chaos Black, then paint the eyeball Skull White. Next paint the pupil, a Chaos Black line
straight down the middle. Now comes the tricky part. Using Bleached Bone, pick out the edge of the eye sockets. Paint the rest of the head tattoos as
shown in the image below. Arm and Leg Tattoo's The Horn The Boots The Base Build a thin layer of green stuff (or equivalent) onto the base. Let the green stuff dry for approx. 20 minutes.
Then, using a sculpting tool or hobby knife scribe a wicker like pattern into the green stuff. Use the the molding
on the Mumak howdah as guide. Paint to match your Mumak howdah. Conclusion Well that's your Mahud Chieftain Done. I hope that this article helped and I look forward to seeing other Mahud Chieftains
appearing on the site.

Highlight the area with Blood Red.
Heavily drybrush the Grey cloth with a 1:1 mix of Chaos Black and Codex Grey. Then lightly drybrush with Codex Grey.
Use a 1:1 mix of Dark Flesh and Chaos Black and apply this to the top half of the face.
Everything from the ears down (including nose and eyes) should be Chaos Black.
Now we move onto the Arm and Leg tattoos. Create a 1:1 mix of Chaos Black and Scorched Brown.
Apply this where you want the tattoos to be. Then with Bleached Bone, paint a thin line through the middle of it.
Paint the whole horn Bleached Bone. Paint the lining Shining Gold and wash with watered down Scorched Brown,
Chestnut Ink or Brown Ink. Highlight the Bleached Bone areas with Skull White.
Paint the boots Scorched Brown. The gem is painted Regal Blue and highlighted with Enchanted Blue.
