How To Make Simple Snow Bases.
Materials/Paints Needed
Base
Sand
Static Grass
Codex Grey
Fortress Grey
Skull White
This is a very simple guide on how to make snow bases. I got the idea to write this article after numerous calls for help from those new to the hobby.
Step OneCover your base with modelling sand using PVA glue to attach it. I personally cheat and use builder’s sand. It’s a lot cheaper than modelling sand and does the same thing.

Once the glue has dried, paint the sand with Codex Grey. I suggest using an old brush to do this as the sand is very abrasive and will ruin your best painting brushes.

Once Step 2 is dry, heavily drybrush Fortress Grey. This will add the first highlight to the snow.

Now it’s time to give your base the snow look to it. Dry brush Skull White over the base. I have found it’s better if you do this a couple of times and it builds up the whiteness quite nicely. If you want, you can leave your base at this stage as just a pure snow base. However, there one final step if you want to add a little more realism to the base.

This is totally optional. What you can do is glue a little tuft of static grass to the base using PVA. One the glue has dried, carefully trim the grass so it’s quite short. This will give the appearance of little tufts of grass peering through the snow. Your base is now complete.

This has been a very simple guide to write and to make. However I think a lot of you will find it useful when making those winter characters.
