Errand Riders of Gondor This scenerio depicts the scene in "The Lord of The Rings" when Hirgon and another errand rider are returning to Gondor bearing the red arrow, only to find Gondor
already besieged. They are forced to turn around and return to Rohan. Shall they make it to the safety of the forest, or will they slain by the
merciless Orc archers? It is up to you to decide. Forces
Good.
Hirgon & companion (use mounted Captains of Minas Tirith).
Evil.
10 Orcs armed with Bows.
5 Orcs with hand weapons.
Layout
The scenario is played on a 4ft x 2ft board. The board should be devoid of scenery except a 4" wide band of trees, scrub, etc.
at one end of the board representing the forest.
Starting Positions
Both Errand Riders are deployed first & start 20 inches from the forest in the middle of the board. All of the Orcs are then deployed. They
must start within 6 inches of the edge of the board and no closer than 18 inches from the Errand Riders.
Objectives
The Errand Riders are trying to make their way to the forest. Once there, roll a die. On a roll of 1-4 the rider is lost in the forest and never
seen again, on a roll 5-6 they make their way back to the Riders of Rohan.
The Orcs win if they kill both of the riders.
Special Rules
The city is overrun. The sight of their beloved city being overrun evokes terror in the hearts of the Errand Riders. To represent this, the Errand
Riders must take a courage test at the start of each of their turns.
Countless Orcs. There are literally countless Orcs. Every time an Orc is slain, it is replaced in the Orc deployment zone at the start of the Orc player's next turn. The Orcs do not need to take courage tests because they are so confident of their victory.
Panicked Steeds. Before the rider can move he has to roll a die. If he rolls anything below 6 his mount moves 6 inches toward the nearest table edge and can do nothing further that turn. Might can be used to be used to modify these rolls. If the rider reaches the edge it moves off and counts as a casualty.
